description	兵庫県の北の玄関口として位置づけ、地域住民の交流の場や上山高原のエントランス機能を果たす施設です。日本有数の昆虫化石の埋蔵地である海上地区の化石をメーンに展示する「おもしろ昆虫化石館」集会施設や観光案内施設を備えています。中核となる「おもしろ昆虫化石館」には、昆虫や植物の化石のほか、昆虫化石が採集できる地層の復元模型を展示しています。町内の自然や化石の歴史を解説パネルや映像でも紹介しています。また、化石採集の魅力が満喫できる体験コーナーも設け、学習機能を生かせる施設となっています。
